AIM Solo 2 GPS Car Racing Track Day Lap Timer

Aim Solo 2 GPS Car Racing Track Day Lap Timer is a completely automatic motorsport laptimer.

The AIM Solo 2 raises the bar for GPS lap timers. The GPS technology used in this unit has been updated from its predecessor and now receives the data from two satellite constellations (GPS and Glonass); making for a significant improvement in data speed and positioning precision. This means that the start up time is reduced to a matter of seconds and lap times are accurate to a tolerance of two hundredths of a second.

The display of the Solo 2 features a selection of 7 different backlight colours which can selected by the user to suit their requirements. The sharp, high contrast display helps the driver to easily identify the data being displayed.

Making use of GPS technology, the Solo 2 is pre-loaded with a database of over 3,000 tracks from all over the world so that as soon as the unit is switched on, it identifies its position and loads the start line coordinates ready to begin recording lap times. If, however, the particular track that you are at is not recognised, the Solo 2 automatically enters auto-learning mode and begins to build the track layout based on your car position and records the lap times.

The improved GPS technology in the Solo 2 also provides better reliability from the predictive lap timing function so that you can see, in real time, how your current lap compares to your best lap. The LEDs are also configurable to give a visual indication on whether you are quicker or slower. The Solo 2 now features a theoretical lap timing mode which pieces together your overall best sector times to provide an optimal lap time that could be achieved. Timing information can also be shown in a delta format which gives a representation of how much time you are quicker or slower than your best lap.

The Solo 2 is not just restricted to circuit racing, it can also be used for point to point or regularity events as well as performance tests such as 0-60 mph etc. As with the circuit racing mode, all data is recorded and can be reviewed immediately after the session.

If you want to further review the data at greater length, the Solo 2 has integrated Wi-Fi so that you can transfer data securely and quickly to a laptop or computer up to 50m away without the need for connectors or cables. You can then import the data into the AIM Race Studio 3 software for full analysis.

AIM Solo GPS Car Racing Track Day Lap Timer  shows different lap time modes, fully configurable:

  • Rolling lap time
  • Static lap time
  • Predictive lap time (screenshot 1), calculated during the current lap

In addition to all of Solo’s powerful functions, SoloDL can be connected to the Engine Control Unit (ECU) of your car to sample, record and display. Additionally this data can be displayed on optional AiM SmartyCam HD generated video. Additional sensors and complicated wiring are not required with ECU supplied information. You can get all the info you need to improve your driving skills like RPM, throttle position, brake pressure and much more.

There are many different ECU protocols and AiM has developed a huge database to make connection to virtually all possible stock and racing ECUs.

Hardware compatibility: ECUs transmit data according to three different standards: OBDII connection which is typical of stock/production cars and CAN or RS232 connections which are the standard for racing/aftermarket ECUs.
SoloDL is compatible with all of these standards thanks to the huge AiM database of ECU protocols that is constantly updated and freely downloadable here.

To connect Solo to your car, you need to choose the cable that fits to your car: SoloDL comes with your choice of cable for stock/production cars or for racing/aftermarket ECUs.

ECU selection: with RaceStudio2 software it is possible to select from more than 500 specific ECU protocols, allowing Solo to read, record, and display the ECU data.

Pages configuration: like Solo, SoloDL allows fully User customizable pages to be configured with the desired data.

Data analysis: after each test, it is possible to analyze all of the data recorded. You will understand your performance at all positions on the track with the powerful Race Studio 2 professional software. Your data will be displayed in graphs, histograms and tables. This software is currently used by thousands of users all around the world.


SoloDL can easily be connected to the AiM SmartyCam HD, creating an even more powerful system.
The on-board camera accepts data from SoloDL, both GPS and ECU based data, and overlays the data directly onto the videos.
